Go For It!
At the 2011 Shizouka Hobby Show, Tamiya unveiled kit #58493 - the Mazda RX7! Built on their popular rear-wheel drive M06 chassis, the 1/10th scale Tamiya RX7 features fully independent, double-wishbone suspension and oil-filled shocks for realistic handling. The motor & speed control are included, but radio gear and body paint are sold separately. Early versions of the kit will include special metal-plated wheels, so order yours fast!

Retro-spec, out of San Diego, California specializes in carbon fiber and fiberglass parts for 70s, 80s, and 90s Japanese cars. Of particular interest is their carbon fiber radiator panel for ‘86-‘91 RX7s. At only $80, it’s a great way to add some flash to your engine bay. Retro-spec’s website claims it helps your rotary run cooler, too. I intend to put this to the test when I buy my own later this summer. Stay tuned!

As evidenced by my last post, I bought a parts car. It’s an ‘86 RX7 GXL that I traded an R/C car for (I’m not kidding). I’ll be grabbing the limited-slip diff, four-pot calipers, and various bits of trim from this car. The rest will be sold or scrapped. Stay tuned for updates as I tear it down!

My RX7 covered with sakura petals. So beautiful for a brief moment, only to wither and die just as quickly.

Here’s another cameraphone picture of my RX-7 from October of last year, near Halloween. Spooky!
